The law states you may self certify your illness for seven days before you need and official Department of Health Certificate.

If your illness continues for more than seven days, under the National Health Service your GP can issue an official Department of Health Statement regarding your illness (called the Med 3)

Please note if you require a 'sick note' for an illness of less than seven days duration the a fee will be charged for a private Doctor's statement.
